Late Fall Season for Trophy Whitetail Deer and Trophy Mule Deer
plus predator hunting
The whitetail deer and mule deer population in the Peace River region has recovered from a severe winter kill in
the late nineties and has now surpassed the previous high population level
Our deer have always been of a high trophy potential. Together with their huge bodies they grow large antlers. We have
taken mule deer with an on the hoof weight of 420 lbs., and whitetails with 390 lbs. Our region is the most northerly for both species of deer.
The biggest threat to a mature buck is the weather. If severe winter conditions set in right after the rut is ending, then
many buck will not be able to recover from the stress of the rut and perish. Fortunately, in the past 5 years severe winter conditions did not set in until after Christmas,
thereby giving our bucks a chance to grow really old and big.
Whitetails of 140 to 160 gross points B&C are very realistic, the antlers have a lot of mass and some non-typical
point are quite common. The odd whitetail will score better. We have found a winter killed buck that scored 217 non-typical points, so the potential is there.
Mule deer of 150 to 175 gross points are very realistic. Again the odd deer will score much higher. The high scoring
bucks usually get the points from heights and mass, rather then width. A 30 inch spread is possible but not he rule.
Staking out alfalfa or grain fields in the morning and evening, plus stalking and rattling in the bedding down areas are
the standard hunting methods.
We also use fully enclosed and heated tree stands over baited sites. Some sites get supplies with feed on a year round
basis with the hope of further increasing the trophy potential.
There is also a chance for some predator hunting. The pelt of wolves, coyotes and lynx are already ripe during this time
of year.
8 days stay, including 6 hunting days, guiding 1 : 1
Price: can$ 4,500.- including 1 whitetail deer
or
1 mule deer
If no realistic opportunity for either a whitetail or a mule deer is offered can$ 1,500.- will be refunded
from the base price
Additional trophy fees:
second deer can$ 1,500.-
wolf can$ 500.-
lynx can$ 800.-
coyote can$ 100,-

Winter Predator Hunts forWolf, Coyote
- at times forCougarandLynx
During the month of February and March we conduct predator hunts. The main objectives are wolves. The wolf population is recovering from a winter kill
in the late nineties that in my territory nearly wiped them out. For obvious reason we would like to slow their recovery. Therefore we are hunting them in the winter over baited
sites. We have a number of different location set up for baiting, always with an insulated and heated blind.
Besides sitting over baits, we can use predator calls. The snowshoe hare population is rapidly increasing after many years of low numbers. With their increase
we also have an ongoing increase in the number of lynx and coyotes.
The number of wolverines and cougars is low. Success depends largely on luck.
